The Jewish Quarter of the Old City

The Jewish Quarter of the Old City fell in to the hands of the Jordanians during the Israeli war of Independence in 1948. It was destroyed and desecrated during the 19 years of Jordanian rule. Recaptured in 1967, Jerusalem was reunified in to one city under Israeli rule. The ancient Quarter has been reconstructed and today combines modern shops, places of worship and study, residential blocks and fascinating archeological sites.
