remains of the Jewish city Gamla
Also in the Golan are the impressive remains of the Jewish city of Gamla, fortified by Josephus Flavius during the Great Jewish Revolt against the Roman Empire (66-70 CE).Gamla was the site of the last stand against the Romans in the Galilee. It was here that over 5000 Jews jumped to their deaths over the cliff walls rather than fall in to the hands of the Romans and live as slaves (67 CE). Gamla is often called the Masada of the Golan Heights.
