The ancient port city of Acre

The ancient port city of Acre on the Mediterranean Sea. This mixed Arab - Jewish town has an underground treasure, the lost Halls of the Knights from the Crusader period, that remain almost intact. Acre is a potpourri of tastes, smells, sounds and exotic wonders.Its' mighty walls held against the attack of Napolean's army in 1799. The ancient prison served the British army which chose to arrest Jewish freedom fighters in pre-State Palestine. The Jewish underground staged an attack that freed over 100 Jewish prisoners in 1947, a major blow to British esteem.
